raised beds with a patio beginning

Imagination, Day 30

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
― Aristotle

Peace begins with a smile..”
― Mother Teresa

A lot of my friends have let me know that they enjoy seeing some of our garden projects as they begin. This one is a bit different and interesting.

The lady for whom we are working wants an innovative, prepared garden site in which she can perform her whimsical gardening talents and techniques. So I won’t be planting this one—my team and I will prepare the site and then turn it over to her.

The garden site will have a brick patio and gravel paths leading away from the patio in four directions through raised compost beds. Pea gravel paths will form a perimeter to the new garden and follow existing brick borders.

There are also water issues caused by the fact that the water from several other homes runs right through this back yard. The design is built around the fact that in any landscaping job, “Water is the bosss.”

33 cubic yards (891 cubic feet) of soil was delivered and we moved it around with shovels and wheelbarrows following a pre-determined design.

There it is. The garden site was begun on September 27. I’ll get some pictures of our progress in a few days.

I lost my vocal cords a while back due to throat cancer. The laryngectomy sent me on a quest to find and learn to use my new, altered voice. I am able to talk now with a really small and neat new prosthesis. My writing reflects what I have learned in my search for a voice. My site johnschulzauthor.com publishes a daily motivational quote and a personal comment. I write an article a week for my blog, johntheplantman.com which deals with a lot of the things that I do in the garden. I am also the author of Requiem for a Redneck and the new Redemption for a Redneck--novels portraying the lives and doings of folks around the north Georgia hills. I have an English Education degree from the University of Georgia and very happily married to the lovely Dekie Hicks. You may enjoy my daily Quotes and Notes at http://johnschulzauthor.com/
