Reflections, Day 11
“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
― Albert Camus
The lady on the mountain enjoys water aerobics in the heated pool year-round.
It’s that time of the year again when we begin preparing the pool for the coming cold weather. We are not sure what to call this structure, but with my plant-growing experience I like to call it a greenhouse. We take the edifice down and put it in storage for the summer. This year will be our third time to put the giant erector set together and cover it with special condensate-free polyethelene film.
The greenhouse is heated by the warm water which keeps the inside atmosphere delightfully pleasant on the coldest winter day. To add to the allure, we are also able to move the potted flowering plants inside and to keep them growing all winter instead of leaving them out to freeze.
But the first step is to erect the frame. This was accomplished early on a blustery, cool Saturday morning. The guys who put the frame up for me are experts and they think nothing of standing on a ladder over a deep pool on a cold windy mountain top. They begin by assembling the roof as shown in the picture, then will use special jacks to raise it in the air and add eight-foot tall legs. I have it easy. My job is to watch and grin.
Perhaps to take a picture or two.
